Ford Everest Seatbelt Status: Unfastened, Recently Unfastened and Fault Differ

An Everest seatbelt display can show more than a simple buckled-or-unbuckled message. “Recently unfastened” and “Fault” are separate labels in the July 2024 Australia/New Zealand owner’s manual. Keep that distinction when describing a warning to a dealer.

This guide uses the manual for that market and edition, printed page40. It does not establish the equipment or display design of every Everest. Check the manual supplied for your vehicle and inspect the actual belt before setting off.

1. Four labels, four descriptions

Label in the manualMeaning to retain
ASeatbelt fastened
BSeatbelt not fastened
CRear seatbelt recently unfastened
DFault

The manual shows the seatbelt status page under the steering-wheel menu, then Select Screens and Seatbelts. Check this while parked. A displayed fastening state is a useful signal, but it is not a full inspection of belt condition or fit.

2. Do not describe every warning as the same event

The manual distinguishes an occupied front seat with the belt unfastened and a rear belt that has been unfastened when the vehicle exceeds a relatively low speed. It also describes an audible reminder. It does not give a single numerical speed in this section, so do not invent one from the phrase “relatively low.”

Keep a fault label separate from a reminder about an unfastened belt. Silencing a reminder does not repair a fault or establish that a belt works correctly. Have an unexplained fault checked through the appropriate service route.

3. Make a useful parked observation

Your observationWhat to record
VehicleModel year and manual market
DisplayThe exact label and seating position shown
Actual beltWhether the occupant’s belt is fastened correctly
OccurrenceWhat happened before the display changed
Next stepAsk service about an unexplained fault

For a hypothetical report, “Rear belt recently unfastened appeared after a passenger released the buckle” gives more useful information than “The car thinks somebody is missing.” Do not use a display to infer a person’s presence without checking the seats.

Should I switch off the reminder to test it?

This guide does not recommend disabling it. The manual directs owners to an authorized dealer for switching the reminder on or off, where equipped.
